Double Rainbow was posted on YouTube by HungryBear9562 on January 8th 2010; however, it was not until Jimmy Kimmel tweeted about the video being the "funniest video in the world" on July 3rd 2010 did Double Rainbow start to go viral.
In the video, YouTube user, HungryBear9562 sees two rainbows and voices his passion for witnessing such an awe-inspiring vision through a breathy voice repeatedly saying, "It’s a Double Rainbow, Oh my God" and breaking into tears. This is quite humorous because in addition to HungryBear9562's breathy voice and random bursts of tears is that he sounds like he is having an orgasm at the sight of seeing two rainbows.
As a result of the hilarity of the video, endless amounts of Double Rainbow, covers and parodies have been made in attempt to recreate HungryBear9562's awe-inspiring YouTube video. Double Rainbow has been auto-tuned and
remixed countless times, and even in the other YouTube video below, a Mississauga highschool band named the Horizons covered Double Rainbow into a hard rock/scream-o song. In my opinion, I dislike the genre hard rock/scream-o genre but the cover is too funny to not give it a second listen as the band brings a more serious
perspective to the song. There is just something about hearing "So bright, so vivid" in an angry voice that acts as comic relief. Furthermore, the parodies ranging from Double Cheeseburgers to Double Kitties, and anything and everything in between. In addition, to the Double Rainbow covers and parodies, this internet phenomenon is being treated as a phrase to describe something awesome. Hearing "that’s so Double Rainbow," or "it was Double Rainbow," is dubbed as something amazing, with no other words to describe as it best by, except for referring it to the YouTube video itself.
